Friends and family gathered Thursdayfor the funeral of Laura Jessome, the Cape Breton woman found dead in a hockey bag floating on the Mira River last week.

The ceremony in Little Bras d'Or,N.S.,was held as police continue to hunt for the 21-year-old woman's killer.

The hockey bag was found floating on the river in the community of Marion Bridgeon May 25. Two people made the grisly discovery and called police.

Cape Breton Regional Police said they were investigating a homicide but would not say how or when Jessome died.

On Wednesday, Jessome's family urged the killer to come forward. They also said they hoped someone contacts police with information to help them crack the case.

"I just want to know whoever did this. I just want them caught. Somebody must know something," Edna Jessome, Laura's mother, told CBC News.

Police said there are 25 officers working on the case full time. Divers have scoured the Mira River several times looking for clues.
