Halifax's auditor general checking to make sure recommendations followed

Halifax's auditor general will review all 600 recommendations his office has made since 2009 to ensure city staff have followed through on the changes.

'It's one thing for them to say they're completed. It's another thing for us to say we agree.'

Halifax's auditor general will review all 600 recommendations his office has made since2009 to ensure city staff have followed through on the changes.

"This was just a good time to cycle back," said Larry Munroe, themunicipal auditor general."It's one thing for them tosay they're completed.It's another thing for us to say we agree."

The review got underway in January. So far 2 of the 33 reportsthe auditor general has published have been signed off on as completed.

Munroe saidthe administration is co-operating.

"We're not hitting any speed bumps." said Munroe,"As the sayinggoes, so far so good."

The review is expected to take until next spring to complete. Oncea report is signed off as completed it'll be posted on the auditor general'swebsite.

The auditor general has published several controversial reportsincluding on overtime, the city's concert scandal andthe Washmill Lake Underpassproject.

Munroe said a review won't be needed for future reports because a new process of regularlychecking in with the administration has been established.
