Halifax paints it black with Stones show

Halifax expects to pocket about $100,000 from last month's Rolling Stones concert.

The city of Halifax expects to pocket about $100,000 from last month's Rolling Stones concert.

About 50,000 fans braved the cold rain for the Sept. 23 show in the Halifax Common, the band's first concert in Nova Scotia.

When Moncton hosted the Stones last year, the New Brunswick city was left with a bill of $670,000.

But Scott Ferguson, spokesman for Events Halifax, said the show at the Common will end up with a profit of about $100,000.

Halifax Coun. Dawn Sloane said the economic spinoff of the show was about $12 million, which means local businesses were the big winners.
