Halifax RCMP say drunk driving arrests thanks to citizens

Police say calls from the public over the weekend helped officers track down a number of impaired drivers, including one who had a small child in their vehicle.

Halifax RCMP say betweenFriday evening and Sunday night officers arrested five impaired driving suspects afterconcerned citizens called police. One more allegedimpaired driver was caught at a checkpoint on St. Margarets Bay Road andanother was stopped for speeding in the LowerSackville area.

RCMP say one of thedrivers had a small child in the vehicle at the time. Another call resulted in the arrest of a driver who police say was impaired by drugs and was driving a stolenvehicle.

All seven are facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

RCMP say in a news released they are encouraged by how many calls they received from the public.
