Gate Keepers clubhouse raided hours after Hells Angels party

A New Glasgow biker gang clubhousewas raided by police within hours of aparty celebratingthe official opening of a Hells Angels' chapter.

The party served as a meeting between the Hells Angels and an affiliate club, the Gate Keepers, who areexpected to turn their allegiance over to the Angels.

Police expected up to 150 bikers, including Hells Angels, to descend on the yellow clubhouse in Musquodobit Harbour, a community 45 kilometres east of Halifax on the Eastern Shore.

While Mounties kept an eye on the party, policeraided the Gate Keepers' New Glasgow clubhouse early Sunday.

Around 6:30 a.m., Nova Scotia RCMP searched their address in MacLean Street, spokesperson Cpl. Jadie Spence said.

"There's another club house there," he said. "So [police] executed a search warrant there looking for evidence in an ongoing investigation."

Spencedeclined to say whetherthe timing of the search deliberately coincidedwith the meeting inMusquodoboit. No arrests have been made, he said.

No turf war

TheMusquodoboit Harbour gathering was quiet, Spence said, adding police did notexpect trouble at the clubhouse as there's no turf war in the area.

No neighbours complained either, he said.

"Typically, [the bikers]tend to be fairly quiet when they're in there," Spence said. "They're not trying to attract police attention necessarily."

The Hells Angels were driven out of Nova Scotia in the early 2000s, when a police operation led to most members'arrests. The club is believed to have folded when it's once-active membership dropped below six people.
