HMCS Fredericton leaves Halifax for NATO mission in Mediterranean

Canadian warship HMCS Fredericton has left Halifax for a mission in the Mediterranean.

The ship departed at 1 p.m. AT and will replace HMCS Winnipeg, which is currently participating in maritime security operations.

HMCS Fredericton is taking part in Operation Reassurance, a NATO-led mission prompted by Russia's aggressionagainst Ukraine in 2014.

In late November, the Halifax-class frigate returned to Halifax to undergo repairs following training at sea.

According to Maritime Forces Atlantic, "tiny fissures" were found in a long, thin piece of metal around the funnel of the ship ontheweather deck.
