Joseph Douglas Cameron, 20, of Dartmouth has been identified as the man who was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the Spring Avenue and Mount Edward Road area, Halifax Regional Police say.

Ashton Glasgow was a friend of Cameron's and remembers him as kind and loving.

"Open arms," he said. "Really motivated, kind of quiet at times, really kept to himself. He had a strong circle of friends."

The medical examiner ruled Cameron's death a homicide after an autopsy.

Police said Cameron was not known to them.

Police were called to the Dartmouth neighbourhood around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday morning after receiving reports that shots had been fired.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
