Human remains found in water at Long Lake Provincial Park in Halifax

Police were called Tuesday after someone reported finding the remains. The remains have not been positively identified, but police say there is currently no evidence of foul play.

Halifax Regional Police say human remains were found in the water around Long Lake Provincial Park in Halifax on Tuesday.

In a news release on Wednesday, police said they were called to the area earlyTuesday afternoon to respond to a report of remains being found. While police originally saidthe remains were found near the 0-100 block of Old Sambro Road, they subsequently said they werefound in the lake.

The remains have not been positively identified, butpolice say there is currently no evidence of foul play.

Police told CBC News in an email that they are working to determine whether the remains belongto the kayaker who disappeared at the park last month.

Jashandeep Kaur, 26, was reported missing to police on Aug. 18around 12:40 p.m. AT. The next day, police said herlife-jacket and cellphone had been foundon herkayak, which was upright and floating on the lake. The search for Kaur ended on Aug. 21, butthe investigation remainedopen since she hadn't been found.

Police taped off several entry points to the park on Tuesday, including one at Dentith Road and Old Sambro Road, and a second entrance at Old Sambro Road.Several police vehicles were stationed in the area.

The police tape was removed just before4 p.m. on Tuesday.
