Man dead after accident at transportation business off Prospect Road

A 57-year-old man from Hatchet Lake, N.S., was killed Tuesdaywhile working at an industrial site on the outskirts of metro Halifax.

A 57-year-old man was killed Tuesdayat an industrial site in the community of Goodwood on the outskirts of metro Halifax, according to the RCMP.

The man was working when he was crushed between a truck and a trailer. He was declared dead at the scene.

The incident happened on aproperty owned byM & J Total Transportation and Rigging, which is located off Prospect Road. Thecompany said the man worked for another trucking businessand was on site to pick up a load of goods.

The man was from the nearby community ofHatchet Lake.

His death is not suspicious andis considered an occupational health and safety accident, whichis being investigated by the province's Department of Labour, said police.

The Department of Labour said the truck involved in the accident has been taken out of service to be examined. A spokesperson would not comment further because theinvestigation is ongoing.

An RCMP traffic analyst was at the scene to aid in the investigation and the medical examiner will determine the manner of death.
