Judicial recount upholds Liberal win in Chester-St. Margaret's

Hugh MacKaycan now officially say he's going to Province House after the Liberal politician's win in Chester-St. Margaret's was confirmed Mondayfollowing a judicial recount.

MacKay took the district in last month's provincial election, part of a night that saw the Liberals earn the first back-to-back majority Nova Scotia government in 30 years.

Following a close finish in Chester-St. Margaret's, NDP incumbent Denise Peterson-Rafuseasked for a judicial recount. It was held Monday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court and overseen by a judge.

The vote totals for the district changed by just one vote following the recount, with PC candidate Julie Chaissongoing from 2,229 votes to 2,230 andPeterson-Rafuse going from 3,022 to 3,021. MacKay remained steady at 3,112 votes,as did Green Party candidate Harry Ward at 413.

This was the third of three recounts from the election,all of which upheld Liberal candidate victories and the party's majority with 27 seats in the legislature.
