A Dartmouth developer hopes to start building the tallest tower in Atlantic Canada late next year.

The building is the dream of King's Wharf developer Francis Fares, who wants to begin construction of a 36-storeyhotel and condo tower in late 2017.

The proposed development would be taller than the current tallest building east of Montreal, Halifax's FenwickTower, which has 33 storeys.

The first 11 floors would be taken up by a hotel, and the rest of thefloors would be dedicated to condos and amenities like an indoor pool.

The lowest-priced condo costs a fraction under $500,000, whilemost of the 114 units are closer to $1 million. The penthouses are $2 million apiece.

The estimated building cost is $100 million, according to Fares.

In 2009, Halifax Regional Municipality planners gave "conceptual approval" to a King's Wharf master plan that included buildings ranging from five to 32 storeys.

Changes to the overall plan to allow for the proposed 36-storey tower still need to be approved by the city.
