Loretta Saunders murder pre-trial hearing adjourned

A pre-trial hearing into the admissibility of evidence in the killing of Loretta Saunders, and whether the two accused of murdering her should be tried separately, was adjourned Thursday until later this month.

A pre-trial hearing into the admissibilityof evidence in the killing of Loretta Saunders, and whether the two accused of murdering her should be tried separately, was adjourned Thursday until later this month.

Victoria Henneberry, 28, and Blake Leggette, 25, are charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 26-year-old Saint Mary's University student.

A court in Halifax was due to hear arguments from lawyers Thursday in a pre-trial hearing, but one of the defence lawyers asked for more time after the Crown said it wanted to introduce new evidence.

They will return to court Feb. 25.

There is a ban on publishing details of Thursday's hearing.Leggettewasin court, howeverHenneberrywasnot and wasinstead represented by her lawyer.

Police believe Saunders, 26, was killed in the Halifax apartment she shared with the pair and that they disposed of her body in New Brunswick.

She was last seen on Feb. 13, 2014, and her body was found 13 days laterin the median of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Salisbury, N.B.

Their trial isscheduled to begin April20.
