Man, 18, arrested for IWK shooting facing attempted murder charges

Police say an 18-year-old man arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Halifax hospital last month had tried to kill the victim twice before.

Halifax Regional Police said the 18-year-old was arrested Thursday afternoon in Dartmouth.

Const. Jeff Carr said the man will be charged with attempted murder in relation to the Nov. 18 shooting in a parking lot outside the IWK Health Centre.

A 27-year-old man was struck in the wrist and rushed to the emergency department with a non-life-threatening injury.

Halifax police Chief Frank Beazley said the shooting wasproofof an ongoing drug warand thatit wasgetting out of control.

Carr said the 18-year-old will also face two other counts of attempted murder in two other incidents involving the same victim.

On Aug. 15, the27-year old was inside a home on Athlone Avenue when he was struck by a bullet after someoneshot through a window.

Police saidthe other incident, which wasn't reported at the time, happened on Lavender Walk earlier in the summer. The victim wasn't injured.

The 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Halifax courtroom on Friday.
