Municipal election results pour in across N.S.

Themunicipal election polls are officially closed, and now Nova Scotians just have to wait for the results to find out who will lead their cities and towns over the next four years.

By the end of the night, the Halifax region will have elected a new mayor. Incumbent Peter Kelly announced he would not reoffer after heading Halifax for 12 years. Mike Savage, Fred Connors, Tom Martin, Aaron Eisses, Steve Mackie and Robert Wesley McCormack are all vying for the job.

In Cape Breton, veteran provincial politician Cecil Clarke is gunning for the job of mayor after John Morgan announced he would not run for the job this year. Clarke is running against Rankin MacSween, the head of New Dawn enterprises.

A total of 766 names are on the ballot in municipal races across the province. About 155 people put their names forward for school boards, 74 of them are current members.

E-voting in HRM wrapped up Thursday with just over22 per cent of eligible voters casting their vote online or on the phone.
