Nova Scotia breweries team up for first Craft Beer Week

Three Nova Scotia breweries have teamed up on a brand new brew to celebrate the province'sfirst ever Craft Beer Week.

Propellor, Big Spruceand Tatamagouche Brewing Company are releasing "Cerberus American IPA"a fully organic certified beer specially brewed to promote craft beer in Nova Scotia.

"It was all about sharing and creativity," says Jeremy White, founder and ale master at Big Spruce Brewery in Cape Breton.

"The industry is full of great, creative Nova Scotians and it was fun to be in a group of them, coming up with this beer and everything it stands for."

The name "Cerberus" comes from the mythological three headed hellhound said to guard the gates to the Underworld.White is hoping the beer can live up to the name.

'Flavour and aroma bomb'

"We`re cautiously optimistic," he said.

White calls it a "very aggressive, hop forward beer," promising it to be a "flavour and aroma bomb."

The brew has been in the works since February, with all three breweries adding their own ingredients.

The idea behind the beer is to promote and celebrate local and sustainable craft beer.

"It makes absolutely no sense in this world to be spending your beer dollars making companies that are outside Nova Scotia profitable in their efforts to bring you beer with poor ingredients." said White.

Nova Scotia has seen a boom in craft beer sales in recent years, which is what Nova Scotia Craft Beer Week hopes to celebrate.

The beer will be available at all three breweries, but ismaking its official first pour on May 9 at Halifax's Stillwell Beer Bar.

Nova Scotia Craft Beer Week runs from May 8 to17.
