N.S. man facing 14 charges in relation to alleged shooting incident

A Nova Scotia man accused of being involved ina shooting incident at a Truro-area motel earlier this month will remain in jail until at least Nov. 1, when a bail hearing will be held.

Darren Trevor Jackson, 52, is facing 14 charges, including sexual assault and administering, or attempting to administer, a stupefying substance. A publication ban has been imposed on the identities of any alleged victims in this case. He also faces attempted murder and assault charges as well as a variety of weapons offences.

Jackson appeared by telephone in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Truro Monday afternoon, when the Crown announced it was opposed to his release.

RCMP were called to a motel on Highway 2 in Brookfield, N.S., around 9 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 15, for a report of shots being fired.

Police said they received another call shortly after the first report, and learned a man had fired a shot at a 29-year-old woman standing outside her vehicle, but a 30-year-old passenger inside was injured instead.

The passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, while the woman outside the vehicle was not injured.

Jackson was the subject of a provincewide alert. He was not found until early Friday morning when he was arrested at a home in Nuttby, N.S.
