Power back on for most Nova Scotians after widespread outages

Nova Scotia Power is reporting sporadicoutages across the province as remnants of Nicole hitthe region Saturday with heavy rain and winds.

Atnoon AT Saturday, the utility's map said there were 43 active outages in the province affecting just over 900 customers. Thatwas down from44active outages and 12,640homes andbusinesseswithout electricity an hour earlier.

Power was disrupted to more than 9,300 customers in the Halifax area Saturday morning, but by noon the utility's outage map recorded fewer than 100 customers without power.

ANova Scotia Power spokesperson said the cause of the Halifaxoutageswasunder investigation.

The second-most affected area was in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park area.

Nova Scotia Power said more than 2,700 customers were without power in thatarea Saturday morning but by noon the utility's outage map indicated power had been completely restored.

Outagesare being reported around the province.

Weather to clear by evening

Environment Canada meteorologist Jean-Philippe Bginsaid Nova Scotia should expect between 30 and 60 millimetres of rain on Saturday. Clearing should begin this evening, hesaid.

According toBgin,the region has seen the remnants of tropical systems as late as January in the past.
