Some businesses, including bed and breakfast operators in Nova Scotia, are reaching out to veterans on Remembrance Day.

Many are offering special deals for veterans and active members of the military.

Joe Macholl and his wife Bridget run a bed and breakfast near Marion Bridge. He says they quickly adopted the idea recommended by their national association to offer veterans a free night's stay on or around Nov.11.

Macholl says he identifies with those who make their living by keeping others safe.

"I was myself in the German air force for four years, and I think it's an important job,"he says. "I think we should support our veterans, all who served and who are serving now. And the police of course."

Macholl said current and retired RCMP and officers with any local police service are welcome.

He says so far very few have taken up theoffer, but he expects that to change as people get to know about it.
