Police probe Halifax homicide after shooting

One person is dead and another in critical condition after an apparent double shooting in Halifax Friday night.

One man is dead and another in critical condition after an apparent double shooting in Halifax Friday night.

The incident happened at 8:40 p.m. on Clifton and St. Albans streets. A witness told CBC News that two people had been shot. Two ambulances attended the scene, but only one went to the hospital.

A woman was led away by police as she shouted, "I want to see him."

Const. Brian Palmeter said police are investigating a homicideafter responding to a weapons complaint on Clifton Street.

"The investigation is in its early stages. Though the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death, police are treating this incident as a homicide," he said.

He said the second victim had non-life threatening injuries.

The Queen Elizabeth IIHealth Sciences Centre went into lockdown around 9:30 p.m. A spokesman said that happens when there are concerns for the safety of staff and patients.

Neighbours said the house was known for drug dealing.

A police forensics unit is on the scene at Clifton Street.
