Province offers $50K to catch senior's killer

The unsolved murder of a Second World War veteran in Cape Breton has been added to the province's cash reward program.

Harold James (Buster) Slaunwhite, 82, was found dead in his home in Dominion on Sept. 10, 2006, one day after he was last seen driving his blue Taurus around the community.

Cape Breton Regional Police later confirmed it was a homicide, but did not give details about how Slaunwhite was killed.

Despite repeated pleas to the public for information, police have not been able to catch his killer.

Under the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, anyone with information leading to a conviction qualifies for up to $50,000. Callers must give their name and be willing to testify in court.

The Slaunwhite slaying is the first case submitted by the Cape Breton Regional Police.

Slaunwhite is the 16th homicide case inthe year-old reward program. There is alsoone unsolved case involving the discovery of human remains and three missing persons cases.
