Queen set to arrive in Halifax

The royal tour of Canada begins Monday afternoon when the Queen andthe Duke of Edinburgharrive in Halifax.

Their plane is expected to touch down at Halifax's Stanfield International Airport at 2:20 p.m. AT.

The royal couple will arrive at the Garrison Grounds at 3 p.m. for the official welcome, which will include military honours, performances and the presence of many Canadian dignitaries. The Queen will also do a walkabout.

At 3:55 p.m., theywill arrive at the Halifax Common to take part in the Mi'kmaq cultural event celebrating the 400th anniversary of the baptism of Grand Chief Henri Membertou.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will rededicate Government House on Barrington Street in a ceremony beginning at 4:25 p.m.

Government House, the official residence of the Lieutenant Governorof Nova Scotia, is more than 200 years old and recently underwent an extensive three-year renovation.

On Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. at Government House, the Duke of Edinburgh will present the World Ship Trust Certificate to representatives of the HMCS Haida, a naval ship that is now a national historic site in Hamilton.

At 12:20 p.m., the couple will attend a luncheon at CFB Halifax hosted by Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay. There they will meet the men and women who serve on the base.

The royal couple will then take part in the International Fleet Review. They arrive at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth at 2 p.m.The Queen will meet members of Canada's navy and celebrate the Canadian Naval Centennial.

The day wraps up with a celebration of Nova Scotia at the Cunard Centre hosted by the government of Nova Scotia, beginning at 8 p.m.

At 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, the royal couple leave Nova Scotia for Ottawa, after planting a tree in the Government House garden to commemorate their visit.

There will be various street closures and traffic restrictions during the tour.
