Roofer jailed for repeated safety violations pleads guilty to latest charge

The first person jailed in Nova Scotia for failing to keep workers safe while working at heights has pleaded guilty to the same charge, justmonths after being sentenced on the originaloffence.

Joseph Isnorentered his plea Wednesday in Halifax provincial courton a chargeunder the province'sOccupational Health and Safety Act following allegations at aworksitein Herring Cove in August.

Sentencing has been set for Feb. 13.

It's not thefirst time Isnor has been accused of not keeping staff safe on the job.

He was sentenced in May to 15 days in jail forrepeatedly failingto ensure his employees weresafe at heights while working for his company, United Roofing Inc.

Alex Keaveny, the province's special prosecutor for workplace accidents, said the Crown had no advanced warning Isnor would plead guilty on Wednesday.

Keaveny said he anticipates his office will seek more jail time for Isnorduring sentencing.

Keaveny told CBC earlier this month the contractor was undeterred by lesser punishments he received for repeated safety violations prior to his first sentence. Fines were not paid on time and safety presentationsIsnorwas ordered to complete were left undone.
