Listeria can cause serious illness

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. There are a wide range of possible symptoms including vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness, according to the food inspection agency.

A Listeria monocytogenes infection can also cause pregnant women to have premature delivery, infect the newborn or cause a stillbirth.

The elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk from the infection. In severe cases, people can die from their infection.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, according to the food inspection agency. It says a recall in another country triggered this recall and it is conducting its own food safety inspection.

In its release, the Sabra Dipping Company, based in Colonial Heights, Virginia, said it has taken steps to correct theproblem, and consumers can contact Sabra Consumer Relations at 1-866-265-6761 foradditional information from9:00 am to 8:00 PM ET.
