Shots fired on Quinpool Road in Halifax

A man has been taken to hospital after being injured in a daytime shooting on Quinpool Road Thursday afternoon.

A man has been taken to hospital after being injured in a daytime shooting on Quinpool Road Thursday afternoon.

Theadult malewas transported to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre with non-life-threatening injuries, an Emergency Health Services spokeswoman told CBC News.

Const. Brian Palmeter said the victim was found inside a black Cadillac that was stopped on Quinpool Road outside the old Blockbuster Video location.

Halifax Regional Policegot the call about theshooting in the 6,300 block of Quinpool Road, between Oxford and Preston streetsat approximately2:15 p.m. AT.

Witnesses said police officers descended onQuinpool Road andpulled overthe black Cadillac.

"I just saw a bunch of police cars roll in here, that black Cadillac whipped into the parking lot and then there was a bunch of handguns up in the air and people being told to get on the ground," said Tim McGowan, who was at the scene.

"I live in the north end of Halifax, this is not a new thing to me. This happens far too often in this city."

Less than an hour later, police pulled over another vehicle at Albro Lake and Victoria roads in Dartmouth believed to be connected with the shooting. One person was taken into custody, while another suspect fled the scene on foot.

Halifax Regional Police said Thursday night the person taken into custody was released, while the hunt continued for the person who fled the scene.

They do not believe the shooting was a random act.
