Police arrest two in Ryan White homicide

Police have arrested two people in connection with the 2010 murder of 21-year-old Ryan Matthew White.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the 2010murder of 21-year-old Ryan Matthew White.

A 23-year-old from Halifax and a 25-year-old Dartmouth man were arrested in Hamilton, Ont. Wednesday afternoon, with the help of the Hamilton Police Service.

In a press release, Const. Holly Smith said new information in the case led investigators tosearch Fort Needham Parkon June 29.

Homicide investigators, the identification unit, as well as the canine unit and other officers were on scene during the search. They used metal detectors in a heavily wooded area where there are walking trails.

Investigators did not reveal what they were looking for during the June 29 search or if they found anything.

On July 6, White's homicide was added to Nova Scotias Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes. It offers up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder.

Police believe both the Fort Needham search and the rewards offered helped lead them to the arrests on Wednesday. "We believe that, in addition to ongoing leads that are coming in from people, that is what has lead us to that area in Hamilton," Smith said.

Police found White on the pavement outside a building in the Mulgrave Park public housing complex two years ago. He was suffering from a chest wound.

Smith said investigators are confident there are people who have knowledge of White's homicide and is urging those with information to come forward.

Police have 24 hours to make a decision about laying charges. If they do, the two men will have to be transported back to Halifax because thecrime happened here. Police said they expect to have an update on Thursday.
