Ex-leader of N.S. biker club in court Thursday

A former Bacchus club leader charged in a hammer attack will remain behind bars until a court appearance Thursday.

Paul Roderick Fowler, 44, is accused of trying to kill his estranged wife and another manon the morning of Dec. 31 in Nova Scotia's Hants County.

RCMP were called to a home on Renfrew Road in Nine Mile River. They saida50-year-old man was attacked and a woman was assaulted when she tried to intervene.

Officers arrested Fowler at another home on the same road later that night. RCMP said they seized five long guns and some marijuana.

Fowler is charged with attempted murder, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unsafe storage of a firearm.

Fowlerwas president of the Hants County chapter of Bacchus, one of Canada's oldest biker clubs, which has links to the Hells Angels.

Police and an associate of Fowler's told CBC News he stepped away from the club to deal with personal issues after his wife left.

Police also told CBC News they don't believe this case is tied to Bacchus. They said the male victim is Fowler's wife's new boyfriend.

Fowler is due in court in Truro on Thursday for a bail hearing. He will stay at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility until then.
