Crown wants teen convicted in fatal shooting sentenced as an adult

The Crown is seeking to have a young man from Dartmouth, N.S., sentenced as an adult after he was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Joseph Douglas Cameron.

The 18-year-old man was 17 when he was arrested in Ontario in July 2016 and returned to Nova Scotia to face the murder charge.

He was convicted earlier this month. His identity is protected by apublication ban.

Cameron, 20, was found dead on a sidewalk in Dartmouth in theearly morning hours of March 29, 2016.

Police had responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Spring Avenue and Mount Edward Road.

At the time police saidCameron and his killer knew one another.

The case will return to court early next month to set a sentencing date.

If the Crown is successful in its bid to have the man sentenced as an adult, the publication ban on his identity would no longer be in effect.
