Wednesday may feel like summer, but cooler weather and possible storm coming

October can bring big temperature swings and storms into the region and the coming days will be full proof of that.

Under sunny skies, summer-like temperatures are back on tap for Nova Scotia on Wednesday with widespread afternoon highs in the low 20s. Some daily records for high temperatures onOct. 23couldfall.

As we turn the page to Thursday, we'll be watching a cold front that will be racing into the region, bringing clouds, a few showers and a cooler air mass.

The front will shift the winds to the north and drop temperatures over northern parts of the Maritimesthroughout the day on Thursday.

Nova Scotia will see the winds shift and a cooler air mass arrive through Thursday evening and overnight.

Low double-digit highs are on tap for Friday and Saturday, with even cooler air expected to arrive for Sunday and into Monday. The Cape Breton Highlands may even see a few flakes flying on Sunday night.

Coastal storm threat

Before the colder air arrives, we'll need to keep an eye on a storm system containing the remnants of Tropical Storm Oskar, which will beapproaching from the south.

The track and strength of the storm will be key while we know the centre of the storm will be offshore, forecast models have yet to nail down its exact path or intensity.

If the track is close enough, the storm may bring some heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the eastern mainland and especially Cape Breton.

At the very least, the eastern half of the province is looking set to see some wet weather and breezy winds Thursday afternoon, overnight and continuing into Friday.

The difference between light rain and breezy winds, or50 millimetresor more of rain and strong winds will only be a track variation of about 100 kilometres east or west.
