Woman dies in early morning fire outside Halifax

Crews received a call around 1:20 a.m. Friday about a fire on Moody Park Drive in Williamswood, N.S.

Cause of fire is not yet known, investigation ongoing

A womanis dead after an early morning fire just southwest of Halifax that severely damaged a two-storey home.

Acting District Fire Chief Jim Gates said crews received a call around 1:20 a.m. Fridayabout a fire on Moody Park Drive in Williamswood, N.S.

When crews arrived, the house wasengulfed in flames and fire was coming through portions of the roof, Gates said.

There were two people in the home at the time. The womanwas removed from a bedroomthrough a window and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's husband was able toescapewithout injuries. The Red Cross said Friday they are helping the man with lodging and essentialswhile he's awaiting help through his insurers.

In a statement, city officials said fire crews raised ladders to the second storey of the house despite dangerous fire conditions and structural damage to the house.

Gates said the cause of the fire is not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.

Moody Park Drive was closed to traffic but has since reopened.
