23 Uber drivers charged by Ottawa bylaw officers since October

Nine Uber drivers have been charged by city bylaw officers since Feb. 8, bringing the total number of Uber drivers charged since October to 23.

In total, the city says 23 Uber drivers are facing 44 charges, including operating an unlicensed taxi cab and being an unlicensed taxi driver.

Operating an unlicensed cab isa $260 fine, while being an unlicensed driver is a $615 fine.

The bylaw department is "continuing to investigate illegal unlicensed taxicab transportation activity and [expects] to lay more charges this week," according to an email from Susan Jones, the city's general manager of emergency and protective services.
