2nd Canadian reported dead in Libya

Abdulhamid Darat, a Canadian who had lived in Ottawa but moved to Libya in 2009, has been found dead in a Tripoli prison.

A second Canadian citizen has been found dead in Libya, CBC has confirmed from multiple sources.

Abdulhamid Darat, who lived in Ottawa but had lived in Libya with his wife and five children since 2009, was found dead in a Tripoli prison this week.

Rebels reportedly entered the prison to free people and found a number of people dead.

A number of sources, including the Canadian Libyan Council, confirmed his death. A friend said his body has been returned to his family.

Darat ran a telecommunications company offering internet service in the region. He was last seen in May when he was taken by loyalists of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi for questioning, at atime when Gadhafi had spoken publicly about shutting down internet connections in the country.

Earlier this week friends of Edmonton-born Nader Benrewin confirmed he had been shot and killed while trying to seize the Gadhafi's compound.

Benrewin had been working at an information-technology job in Ottawabefore joining the Libyan uprising inMarch.
