Strong candidates make Capital ward race one to watch

A field of five strong candidates are vying to run Capital ward for the next four years.

Incumbent David Chernushenko won 77% of the vote last time

Capital ward has a population of 37,924 people living in 17,660 homes.

A field of five strong candidates are vying to run Capital ward for the next four years.

David Chernushenko was first elected councillor of Capital ward in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014 with 77 per cent of the vote. That means he'll probably be tough to beat.

But this time around, four candidates with strong community backgrounds are hoping to take the seat away from him:

The people of Capital ward are frustrated that community design plans appear to be ignored by city council. Other perennial issues of interest to residentsinclude garbage and recycling, the ramifications of the Lansdowne redevelopment, transit fares, ways the city can combat climate change, and balancing the needs of the ward's economically diverse constituents.

Want to know more about the candidates?

So did we.

CBC Ottawa created a questionnaire and sent it to each of the registered candidates to fill out.

You can read the responses below. Some candidates did not respond to the questionnaire.

Questionnaires are posted as they were submitted.
