Murder suspect shot in Vanier Burger King in January

Donald Musselman, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death ofMarkland Campbell in the ByWard Market on the weekend, was himself shot at a Vanier fast-food restaurant less thanfive months earlier.

Ottawa police confirmed Musselman was the man hit by a bullet inside the Montreal Road Burger King Jan. 16.

He suffered non life-threatening injuries in what police described at the time as a targeted shooting. The incident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

Musselman was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after Campbell was fatally shot in the ByWard Market Square at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Campbell, a 42-year-old hip-hop artist who had used his music to speak out against gun violence, died in hospital.

On the weekend, police said hisshooting was also targeted.

Musselman is expected back in court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ottawa police said Tuesday that they recovered a weapon after Campbell's shooting, and it's being tested to determine whether it was used in the incident. Police would not say when or wherethe weapon was found.
