Police investigate fire in Vanier as latest in series of arsons

A fire in a two-storey home in Ottawa's Vanier neighbourhood early Saturday morning displaced four people, firefighters said.

A fire in a two-storey home in Ottawa's Vanier neighbourhood early Saturday morning displaced four people.

Ottawa police are investigating an early Saturday morning fire in Vanieras arson and say it may be connected to other recent fires in the neighbourhood.

A fire in a two-storey home on 278 Shakespeare St. displaced four people, firefighters said.

Several people called 911 to reportflames coming from that address12:46 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services said in a news release.

Sgt. David Christie told CBC News police believe the fire is related to a series of fireson April 10 due to similar circumstances and the location.

The fire on Shakespeare Street started outside the buildings,like in those previous cases this time, on the front porch.

When firefighters arrived they began to attack the fire from the front porch area.The flames had already reached the second floor and the attic, firefighters said.

Crews had to call extra trucksto the scene to help.

The fire was outshortly before 2 a.m.

Four people have been displaced, including a25-year-old man and a 24-year-old womanwho were at home at the time.

No one was injured, but the flames caused approximately $400,000 worth of damage.

Police are advising people in the area to bring garbage or recycling containers inside or place them out of sight since it appears the recent fires started in those bins.
