Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in Byward Market stabbing

Police have charged a man with second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing that happened in the Byward Market on Thursday night.

Ottawa Police have charged a man with second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing that happened in the Byward Market on Thursday night.

Jean Paul Theragene, 31, of Ottawa appeared in court on Friday. He's accused of murdering 45-year-oldStephen Pedicelli of Montreal.

Emergency crews were called to an area roughly between Dalhousie Street and King Edward Avenue after 10:30 p.m., according to police and paramedics.

Pedicelli was found stabbed and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, paramedics said.

Police later confirmed he died from his injuries.

The investigation continues.
