Man charged in Orleans stabbing death appears in court

Ottawa police have charged an 18-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection with a stabbing at a house party in Orleans Thursday night.

The 18-year-old charged in the stabbing death of a man at a St. Patrick's Day party in Ottawa's Orleans neighbourhood appeared in court on Saturday.

Benjamin Taylor is charged with second-degree murder inthe death of Scott Ledoux, 22.

Taylor appeared in court on Saturday and will remain in custody. His next court appearance is set for Thursday.

Police were called to 1339 Cousineau St., near St. Joseph and Orleans Boulevards, at about 12:45 a.m. ET Friday after they received a 911 call.

Paramedics worked for 20 minutes to revive the man before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several young people were taken away in police cruisers for questioning.

Neighbours told CBC there was a St. Patrick's Day party in the basement unit of the house where two siblings live. Witnesses sayafight broke out on the street outside the home.

Neighbour Mark Lafontaine said the incident left him shaken.

"I thought this was a good neighbourhood," said Lafontaine. "It's nerve-wracking, you know."
