Man dies in suspicious fire in Greater Napanee

A man is dead following a suspicious fire Saturday evening in Greater Napanee, Ont., police say.

Emergency crews were called to the fire at a multi-unit building on John Street at around 8:15 p.m. that night, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release Monday.

Paramedics took the man to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, OPP said.

He was identified Monday evening as 67-year-old Walter Lasher of Greater Napanee.

The fire is being investigated by the local OPP detachment,along with the office of the chief coroner and the provincial fire marshal.

As of 9 p.m., police had not announced any arrests or charges.
