The deadline has been extended from Dec. 5 this year to Jan. 7, 2015, and the extension will not affect the overall redevelopment timeline, the NCC said in a media release issued Tuesday.

The NCC has experienced a greater amountof interest than expected, and also heard from some interested parties that Dec. 5 would have been too soon to prepare proper submissions.

In late September, the NCC turned to the private sector tolookfor an anchor tenant such as a national institution to be housed on the site.

The federal agency launched what's called a request for qualifications to redevelop a 9.3-hectare site just south of the Canadian War Museum. Successful applicants will then be invited to participate in a second solicitation stage, the NCC said.

It also said interested proponents should provide an outlook for what they would do with an additional 12.3 hectares to the west of the parcels of land.
