NCC extending road closures until Labour Day

Portions of four National Capital Commission (NCC) roadwayswill remain closed to vehicles until September.

The NCCclosed part of theQueen Elizabeth Driveway along the Rideau Canal, two parkways along the Ottawa River and three Gatineau Park parkways earlier this spring to offer residents more space to walk, run and cycle during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The closureswere supposed to end this coming Sunday, but have now been extended through Sept. 7, which is Labour Day.

Theclosures are:

• The Queen Elizabeth Driveway from Laurier to Fifth avenues, daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• The Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway's westbound lanes fromBooth Street toCarling Avenue, weekends from 8 a.m. to4 p.m.
• TheSir George-tienne Cartier Parkway in both directions between the Aviation Parkway and St. Joseph Boulevard, weekends from 8 a.m. to4 p.m.
• The Gatineau, Champlain andFortune Lake parkways Monday to Saturday, and Sundays before 1 p.m. That does not include the Gatineau Parkway between lots P8 and P9, which remains closed to vehicles.

The Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Gatineau Park's parkwayswill be closed on Canada Day, but the otherparkways will not.
