Ottawa beaches to stay open 1 week longer this summer

The citys four beaches will be supervised an extra week this year after council passed a motion Wednesday morning to use $31,000 in savings from a temporary pool closure to pay for lifeguarding.

The city's four beaches will be supervised an extra week this year after council passed a motion Wednesday morning to use $31,000 in savings from a temporary pool closure to pay for lifeguarding.

Beaches will now be open 72 days from 65 days, with the final day of supervision set for the last August Sunday before the Labour Day weekend.

Council agreed to fund the additional week through the budget in future years.
