Snowfall warning issued for much of eastern Ontario

A thick blanket of snow is set tofall over much of eastern Ontario starting Thursday evening.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings stretchingfrom the Kingston in the west, to Cornwall in the east,upto Ottawa in the north, with up to 25 centimetresof snow expected to fall in many places by Friday night.

The weather agency says Ottawa, Gatineau, Kingston, Smiths Fallsand Prescott and Russell can expect 15 centimetresto fall overnight, with another10 centimetres Friday.

Cornwall will be hit the hardest, where with 25 to 35 centimetres possibleby Friday night.

Environment Canadawarns the weather could lead to hazardous conditions Thursdayevening and into the Friday morning commute.

Ottawa's airport said the weather is already starting to delay some flights, while others have been cancelled.

A winter weather parking ban will bein effect for the City of Ottawa starting at 7 a.m. Friday morning. That means no parking on city streets without an on-street parking permit.
