Ottawa Uber drivers making trips to Gatineau on trial basis

Ottawa drivers for the controversial ride-sharing company Uber are now making trips to Gatineauon a trial basis.

The trial began last Friday, and it allows existing Ottawa drivers topick up ride requestsin Gatineau and take themto Ottawa.

Because thedrivers aren't physically based in Gatineauthey don't need a license to operate in Gatineau, but Quebec traffic officials say they'll monitor Uber drivers coming into the city to make sure they're obeying the law.

In Ottawa, bylawofficials have laid about two-dozen charges against Uber drivers since the service came to the cityin the fall of 2014.
