Flooding on Hunt Club, Trim Roads in Ottawa

A section of Hunt Club Road has been reduced to one lane and the road to Petrie Island has closed due to flooding as rain continues to fall in the Ottawa region.

One eastbound lane of Hunt Club Road is closed between Conroy and Hawthorne roads due to flooding, as has Trim Road to the Petrie Island, the city says.

Scott Caldwell, the city's manager of transitway and parking, said the Hunt Club flooding is localized to the road and related to a drainage issue that city workers are working to resolve.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning with heavy rainand possible thunderstorms in the forecast.

By 9 a.m. Monday, 25 to 35 mm rain had been reported over the area, according to Environment Canada. An additional 20 to 30 mmis possible before it tapers off Mondayevening.

Environment Canada said the Ottawa area could see heavy downpours leading to flash floods and water pooling on the roads.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority had warned that higher water levels were likely at Petrie Island as well as around Lac Deschene and at Boise Village, east of Cumberland.

The South Nation Conservation authority is cautioning residents in the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet that water levels in the Ottawa River may increase significantly and to stay away from waterways where flows are high and where banks might be unstable.

Ottawa Police are reminding drivers to use caution and slow down because of reduced visibility.

The high will reach12 C today with east winds gusting from 20-40 km/h. There's a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon and this evening.

The temperature should stay steady near 11 C overnight as another 15 to 25 millimetres of rain falls.

Tuesday will see a high of 14 C with a 60 per cent chance of showers.
