Museum of Civilization closes curtain on actor troupe

A troupe of actors who dressed in period costumes and served as guides at the Canada Hall exhibit of the Museum of Civilization were among eight employees whose positions were eliminated on Tuesday.

The museum announced it had eliminated three jobs through attrition and laid off five employees in an effort to tighten the museum's budget.

Seven of the positions were actors the entirety of the troupeDramamuse that put on shows and dressed in period costumes and engaged visitors and answered questions at the Canada Hall exhibit.

The museum said it was a difficult decision to close the troupe, but said there was no plan to reinstitute it at a later date.

"We're going to work very hard to find positions within the museum for them," said museum spokeswoman Patricia Lynch.

Aweb services officer position was also eliminated.
