National Aboriginal Day march expected to snarl Ottawa traffic

A National Aboriginal Day march is expected to tie up traffic in downtown Ottawa early Friday afternoon.

A march to mark National Aboriginal Day is expected to cause traffic delays through downtown Ottawa Friday afternoon.

The Million First Peoples' March to raise awareness about First Nations treaty rights and sovereignty has been in the works since January.

Ottawa police said it's scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. at Victoria Island, moving across the Portage Bridge to Wellington Street, where theyll march east to Parliament Hill.

Police said the demonstrators have indicated they'll be off the streets by 1 p.m.

Commuters are asked to use alternate routes if possible.
