Heat warning enters 3rd day, with rain and thunderstorms possible

We have reached the stage of the heat wave where high humidity could open the skies in Ottawa-Gatineau beginning Friday afternoon. Still, it won't cool us off much.

The heat wave continues into a third day as we hit the point where humidity leads to rain in Ottawa-Gatineau.

Friday's weather forecast calls for sunny skies, then a mix of sun and cloudwith a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. The afternoon also brings a risk of a thunderstorm.

The west wind should reach 20 kilometres per hour in the morning as the high makes its way to 31 C, with the humidex at 37. The humidex was already 31 at 6 a.m.

Also note the very high UV index of 9, which means sunscreen is again important.

When the UV index reaches 6 or more, Environment Canada advises people to wear protective clothing, sunscreen and seek shade. (CBC News)

Overnight, clouds remain with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. A northwest wind at 20 km/h should ease off as we hit a low of 18 C.

Your weekend starts in a similar fashion. Saturday's forecast has a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, along with the risk of a thunderstorm.

The high is 27 C with thehumidexat 33.

Sunday also calls for a high of 27 C with sunny skies as rain could hit late Sunday night.

Next week begins with a high of 29 C and a chance of rain.
