West Quebec crash kills one on Hwy. 148

One man is dead after a crash on Highway 148 near Papineauville, Que., about 70 km northeast of Ottawa,at about 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Quebec provincial police say a car crossed into the opposite lane and struck a transport truck head on. The driver of the car was killed and the truck driver suffered minor injuries.

"This impact was very violent and the driver of the automobile has unfortunately lost his life," said Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau.

Police have closed the road between Papineauville andMontebello and expect it will remain shut for several hours. Detours are in place that lead to about 20 minutes of extra travelling time.

Police continue to investigate the crash site, whichis near railroad tracks that cross the highway.
