La Pche, Que., car theft suspects caught after being betrayed by their wiener dog

Two suspected car thieves in west Quebec are facing charges after they were given away by their four-legged, furry accomplice.

Two suspected car thieves are facing charges after they were betrayed, police say, by their allegedaccomplice a wiener dog.

At around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning, officers with the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouaisgot reports of a vehicle theft in LaPche, Que., northwest of Ottawa.

A witness gave police a description of the two suspects, along with the hard-to-missdachshund that accompaniedthem during their alleged crime.

The theft was also caught on surveillance video, police said.

Shortly afterwards,anotherwitness told police they'dseen the stolen car in a ditch less than a kilometrefrom where it was initially pilfered and that the two suspects and their dog had fled.

Officers tracked themto a nearby farmhouse, where one suspect further fled into the woods. He wascaptured after a short chase, police said.

A 20-year-old manfrom Low, Que., will face theft and obstruction charges, said police, while a 16-year-old boy faces theft charges.

Both were released under a promise to appear in court.

As for the wiener dog: it's been taken into the care of the Outaouais SPCA, police said.
