Woman found dead in Vanier

Ottawa Police's major crimes unit is investigating after a woman was found dead in Vanier Friday morning.

Police said they were called after a passerby discovered the body lying outside of a house on Alice Street. Police closed off Alice Street and began canvassing the neighbourhood door to door to find out if anyone had heard or seen anything.

Police confirmed Friday afternoon that the victim was a woman, but have not identified her. Theysaid they are treating the death as suspicious. An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled forSaturday to determine the cause of death.

Paramedics saidthe woman was already dead when they arrived on the scene.

Local residentswho spoke withCBC Newssaid there were a number of homes on the street that were a cause for concern and that police were frequent visitors to the area.

Virginia Pryor lives just doors down from the property that is the focus of the police investigation. "Police are here three to four times a week," said Pryor. "They're called in for something, if it's not fighting it's drug related."

Pryor said despite past disruptions, she didn't hear anything out of the ordinary Thursday night or Friday morning.
