P.E.I.'s Western School Board is investigating another school in Summerside for air quality problems caused by mould.

The investigation was launched after complaints from a teacher at Parkside Elementary who was having difficulty breathing. Her doctor told her the source of the problem could be the air quality at the school.

"As this is similar to how the situation at Elm Street had started in Sept/Oct, we have immediately asked for our School Safety Consultant to come to the school and do a series of investigations and tests on the air quality," school board superintendent Dale Sabean wrote in a letter to parents Monday.

"This process started today and will have test results following the Christmas Holidays."

This fall Elm Street Elementary was shut down and about 450 students had to be sent to otherschools. Renovations to clean up the mould are continuing and are not expected to be complete until mid-February.

Sabean asked the parents at Parkside to report to him any medical issues students were experiencing that might be related to air quality at the school.
